Tailgate Review: GaugeMate - Gold Adapters
The gift giving season - great gift ideas for the upland hunter - by The Upland Almanac Staff
If you’re one of those folks who likes to shoot 20-gauge, 28-gauge or even .410 ammo in your 12-gauge shotgun, we have good news. GaugeMate of El Dorado Hills, California, has recently introduced their "Gold" series of sub-gauge chamber-length adapters in sizes ranging from 10-gauge to .410.
GaugeMate’s new design allows their adapters to work with the gun’s extractor/ejector - while having no moving parts to break or malfunction. Extensive testing of these sub-gauge shotgun adapters has demonstrated their practicality for both skeet shooting and upland bird hunting. As the few ounces of additional weight are added between the hands, handling characteristics of the gun are unaffected.
GaugeMate-Gold adapters are machined from stainless steel then plated with titanium nitride. Each set of adapters comes with snap caps, a combination extraction/chamber cleaning tool, a chamber brush, Owens Hinge Pin lube, spare o-rings, and a carrying case. Fourteen gauge conversion sizes are available and each carries a lifetime warranty. Prices run about $100 less than the nearest competitor. GaugeMate-Gold adapters are designed to allow the use of 2 -3/4 inch ammunition in the 2 -1/2 inch chambers of British and continental guns. For optimum performance, the use of Winchester AA or Remington STS ammunition is recommended.
GaugeMate continues to offer their GaugeMate-Silver series of adapters that require manual extraction of the fired case from the adapter. Custom sizes of Silver adapters are available, so if you have the urge to hunt woodcock with your 8-gauge gun using 32- gauge ammo, you can by calling GaugeMate directly.
